Message from the Executive Director

Welcome to the 2016-18 edition of the Yuma County Chamber of Commerce Business Directory. In the front, you will see pages and pages of stories and photos depicting all the things that make Yuma County a great place to live, work, raise a family, play, and have a successful business. There is a generosity of spirit that exists here in Yuma that can’t be found anywhere else. Our sense of community will make you feel welcome in a matter of seconds.

As I begin my third year as your Executive Director, I want to extend my appreciation and gratitude to my Board of Directors, our tireless team of Ambassador volunteers, staff and the over 700 members of the Yuma County Chamberof Commerce. We are doing everything we can to make this your Chamber of Commerce, based on your needs, your inspiration, your success and your goals. Based on your input, we have introduced three new customized training programs: Customer Service, the Communication of Sales, and Team Building. We have also developed a “Lunch & Learn” series of quarterly lunches that provide personal and professional development. Our other new initiatives include the S. June Pallack Excellence in Education Awards specifically designed for non-teaching personnel, the Military Family Information Fair and the Summer Works in Yuma program, designed to get summer jobs for teachers.

Of course, we will continue to advocate for you to keep taxes low, to keep government small and to keep government out of your businesses. We are vigilant at the local, state, regional and national level and work tirelessly to make sure that all of you are represented. We collaborate with our city, county, state and federal elected officials and the cooperation has been wonderful. We have had a few successes with a property tax moratorium, a slowing of water rate hikes, and stayed highly engaged in Education Funding Reform. Your Yuma County Chamber of Commerce has wonderful partnerships with the Greater Yuma Economic Development Corporation, the Yuma Visitors Bureau, the City of Yuma, the Somerton and San Luis Chambers of Commerce, the Arizona Chamber Executives andthe Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Additionally, we are members of the Yuma County Fair Board, BetterYuma.Org, the Yuma Southwest Contractors Association, the Yuma Area Agriculture Council, and we are associate members of the Yuma Association of Realtors. We at the Yuma County Chamberof Commerce will continue to represent you to help make your businesses better.

The cornerstone of our marketing efforts is our “Shop Locally” program. We focus daily on making businesses in Yuma County prosperous and shopping locally truly drives that success. It is my honor to serve the business people of Yuma County, Arizona. I welcome your thoughts, ideas, letters and most importantly your involvement with the Yuma County Chamber of Commerce.

Sincerely,

John Courtis
Executive Director, Yuma County Chamber of Commerce

Message from the Chairman

Opportunity.

It is the one word that I believe describes how each and every person has established themselves in the Yuma area and what allows us all to now call Yuma our home.

We are so lucky to be doing business, raising our families and living our lives in Yuma, Arizona. Our community was founded because of the opportunity it presented to the original settlers and eventually the opportunity for the United States to safely travel West to California.

Great opportunity exists stronger than ever in Yuma. With a good idea, hard work and a positive attitude, the American Dream is alive and well in our community and I am living proof!

Many years ago The Yuma County Chamber of Commerce helped me change my business by offering me the opportunity to network with fellow business owners and community leaders, improve how I run my business, interact with clients and expand the resources I required to grow my business.

Today, the Chamber is thriving with increased membership and fresh ideas! How lucky are we to be in a position to not only improve our own businesses but share our knowledge with others and help cultivate economic growth, new business opportunities and guide the next generation of business owners and community leaders.

It is my hope that you join us at the Chamber of Commerce and make a true effort to be involved and engage with us in 2017 and beyond.

Whether you are a new member of YCCC or one of our valued long-time partners, involvement is the key to maximizing the opportunities that the Yuma County Chamber of Commerce provides us all so we may expand our operations and network with fellow businesses, organizations and community leaders.

"Small opportunities are often the beginning of great enterprises."
Demosthenes
