About Greater Yuma  > Visiting the Greater Yuma Area

THE EARLY SOUTHWEST - Within one mile of the Chamber of Commerce building you can see, hear and feel the history of the Southwest.

Set aside a day, actually two days, to tour the Yuma Crossing State Historic Park, Century House Museum, St. Thomas Mission, art galleries and Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park. All are complimented by eateries and specialty shopping.

YUMA'S MANY DISTINCTIVE SITES OF INTEREST are here for the interest and education of citizens and visiting friends and guests. Not to mention our world-class golf courses and outdoor recreation such as hiking the deserts, dune buggying, mountain biking, and surprisingly, boating on the Colorado River.

There is much to do in Yuma. Such as opportunities for tours of the Marine Corps Air Station, Yuma Proving Ground and the Colorado River. Scenic drives can take in citrus orchards, peanut harvesting and processing, cattle operations, lettuce and other produce crops, cotton fields and date farms. You can also find river rides, hiking, jeep tours and a national wildlife refuge.

For those interested in indoor or slower activities, Yuma offers gambling at the Quechan and Cocopah Indian gaming establishments within minutes of downtown Yuma. A new theater and restaurants along Main Street have been established. Lively music and art vendors arrive as well at the various festivals that Yuma sponsors

If you are interested in crossing the border to experience Mexican cuisine, music and shopping, the greater Yuma area provides 2 borders to choose. The first in San Luis just a 25 minute drive south and the second is short 15 minute drive across the California border to a smaller Mexican town, Algodones.
